A Psycho-Feminist Reading of River’s Redeeming Love.

This study pays attention to the psychoanalysis, individuation, and feminism of the novel
Redeeming Love using the approach of Sigmund Freud and Curl Jung. I chose this novel
because of Angel's personality which portrays an individual who has the power of the
subconscious that plays a role in behavior, thoughts, and emotions. The purposes of this
study is (1) to provide an explanation of how the main character Angel reveal his
personality based on Sigmund Freud's Ego defense mechanisms and Carl Jung's
individuation Process (2) To explore women treated according to the setting of the Novel
Redeeming Love. Qualitative research methods were used in this study. I collected
primary data from Novel Redeeming Love while secondary data was from internet-based
reviews, journals, and related papers. This research uses library study techniques. The
results showed that a Angel's personality can be seen from behavior, thoughts, and
emotions identified in Sigmund Freud's defense mechanisms. Sigmund Freud had
seventeen defense mechanisms that were described in each of the Angel situations and
classified into the id, ego, and superego. To achieve a perfect personality there are several
stages to individuation In Angel's personality there are several feminist problems in it.
The feminists described marginalization, negative labeling, violence, and domestic duties.
