Abstract

This paper presents an analysis of near future in Mee language using qualitative descriptive method. The aims of this paper are to present a description of near future forms and to find the meanings of the forms. Data for the paper were collected from five native speakers of Paniai dialect of Mee language as language consultants. The findings of the paper show that near future has two forms: neg- and p-g-. These two forms both express tense and aspect. Data also reveal that when ne- without g- is used, it denotes modality. What remains to be seen are full analysis of the forms by using texts taken from varieties of contexts. Also, a complete discussion of complex system of tense, aspect, modality and may be evidentiality may still need to be discussed.
