Abstract

Vocabulary is the basis for learning English and vocabulary is a component of language; there is no language without vocabulary. Students are not able to master the four language skills, moreover learning English does not have a good foundation. The teacher is expected to be able to find learning media to support the process of teaching vocabulary. The focus of the research is the teacher's teaching method to class VIIID students of SMPN 1 Jayaputra. The purpose of this study was to find out teachers teaching vocabulary using flashcard media and also the opinions of class VIIID students at SMPN 1 Jayapura in teaching vocabulary using flashcards media. This study uses a qualitative descriptive research design. Data collection techniques using instruments (1) observation, (2) interviews and (3) documentation. Researchers analyzed the data in three stages, namely, (1) data reduction, (2) presenting data and (3) verifying data. Researchers use data triangulation techniques to get valid conclusions. From this study the researchers found that teachers teaching vocabulary using flashcard media were very effective and made it easier for teachers to teach. Students think that the use of flashcards media is very helpful for students' vocabulary. Thus the researcher concluded that the use of flashcard media in teaching vocabulary in class VIIID SMPN 1 Jayapura was very good at motivating students in learning and being effective in using teaching vocabulary.
