Improving Speaking Ability By Using Communicative Language Teaching Of Students In Eleven Grade At SMA Muhammadiyah Jayapura

This research aims to find out whether the use of Communicative Language Teaching can improve the speaking ability of class XI students at SMA Muhammadiyah Jayapura. This research applied a pre-experimental research design. The instruments used to collect data in this research were pre-test and post-test. The population of this research was class XI students at SMA Muhammadiyah Jayapura which consisted of four classes with a total of 146 students. In this research, only one class was used as an experimental class and the researcher took class XI 2 students used in this research was random sampling. The results of this research show that students’ speaking ability have increased significantly, this is evidenced by the increase in the mean score on the pre-test of 45.05 with a standard deviation of 9.689 and post-test 74.94 with a standard deviation of 6.440 and the Tvalue of 14.470, Ttable with df 33 was 2.043. Based on this analysis, it can be concluded that the Tvalue (14.470) is greater than the Ttable (2.043) at the 0.05 level. In this case Ha is accepted and Ho was rejected. In conclusion, this means that there was a significant improve in students’ speaking ability by using Communicative Language Teaching in learning English.
