Abstract

Performance can be said to be the responsibility of the teacher in an effective teaching process that includes designing learning programs, implementing the learning process, and assessing student learning outcomes. This led researchers to analyze English teachers in class VIII C of SMPN 1 Jayapura. The specific problems for this study are: (1) What is the perception of EFL teachers who teach English at SMP Negeri I Jayapura? With the above problems, the specific objectives of this study are (1) To investigate students' perceptions of their EFL teachers at SMP Negeri 1 Jayapura. This study focused on students' perceptions of the English teaching and learning process at SMPN 1 Jayapura using quantitative descriptive research methods by applying survey research designs. The type of survey used in this study was Cross-sectional. Meanwhile, researchers collect data using instruments, namely, questionnaires, interviews and observations. This study answers the above problems: (1) The result of students' views on the EFL teacher when teaching is that the teacher is patient, disciplined, motivating students, mastering the four skills of English, friendly and pleasant and the teacher is able to give directions smoothly, the class feels free when giving opinions, has pronunciation, intonation and fluency in language use, knows the student's name and provides learning objectives. (Teacher presentation (P=100%), teacher/student interaction (P=100%, personal characteristics of the teacher (P=97.0%), teacher execution/method (P=96.97%, Personal qualities of the teacher (P=93.9%), pedagogical skills of the teacher (P=93.4), teacher preparation (P=75.8%, technical knowledge of the teacher (P=63%) and interpersonal ability (P=54.5%). Based on this research, researchers hope that every English teacher must continue to evoke a sense of self-reflection on the teaching process so that learning outcomes satisfy students.
